News - 5-A-Side Football: Forza Cogent!

Communications professionals from across the Midlands scored a winning goal for the Teenage Cancer Trust with a charity football tournament. Thirteen teams took part in our 5-A-Side Football event to raise money for the charities and indulge in some healthy competition.

The event, held at Salford Stadium in Birmingham on Thursday (Sept 24), raised £445 for the organisation’s nominated charity.
WAA, Orion Media, Aston Villa, McCann Erickson, Cogent, 383 Project, DIS, Life, Advek, RBH, Pitch Consultants, One Black Bear and Ward Lovett all put teams forward for the tournament, playing seven minute matches to decide who made it through to the quarter finals.

The teams were whittled down over the evening until Sutton Coldfield-based full service agency WAA took on Cogent in the final. Cogent won 2-0.

Selena Higgins, chair of PACE, said: “We were absolutely delighted with the response we got to the tournament. We weren’t sure we’d make a profit as we had overheads to meet in staging the event.

“We’d underestimated how seriously people were going to take it though! It was an opportunity for all of these great names in the industry to take that professional competition to the next level, and there were some very determined players out to settle scores when the fixture list was revealed.

“We were delighted with the support shown for the event, and even after expenses, we’ve raised £445 which will be added to the funds raised at other PACE events this year and will be presented to the Teenage Cancer Trust to fund vital research for these brave young people.”

Adam Clements, of WAA, said: “We were robbed. Had it been a game of two halves, we would have won.” (Groan! Ed.)
